This month, our blog series is called Love, Your Skin and will focus on different ways to show your skin some love, from head to toe!
Our lives can be so busy and hectic that certain habits get pushed to the side. Somehow, these also tend to be the habits associated with health, such as eating right, exercise…and skin care! What skincare practices should you absolutely not skimp on? Cleansing, treating and moisturizing.
Taking a minute or two to fully cleanse your face once or twice a day is crucial for removing dead skin cells, oils & debris that your pores have taken in, and any bacteria from your skin. If you exercise, it is also important to remove any makeup prior to the exercise and cleaning the face immediately afterwards. If time is of the essence, using a moist towelette is a quick & easy way to accomplish this. They do not do the best job of cleansing, but they are better than nothing! Also, as you will hopefully fully wash your face later, they do a sufficiently good job at cleansing for the moment.
If there is a particular skin issue that you are trying to improve, whether that is acne or aging skin or eczema, always apply whatever serum, cream or other product you use to treat that issue. Most of these types of products take weeks of regular use to see results, so if you only apply them every now and then, it will take longer for you to see results –if you see them at all!
Don’t forget this step! Moisturizing the skin is important to a healthy skin barrier (our first line of defense for the body!), control of sebum (skin oil) production and smooth skin texture. Apply your lotion, cream or oil immediately after cleansing, whether body or face, to lock in the moisture left from the water.
